Labor Unity is a faction within the Australian Labor Party (ALP).

The ALP is a democratically governed Political Party, with 2 biannual conferences, 30 elected committees and over 900 elected positions.

Over time, a variety of structures have evolved to allow members to debate and coordinate their views across these bodies with factions remaining the most common method.

Labor Unity believes that the ALP should remain strongly committed to social democratic principles and values. Specifically, we believe in the following strategic goals:

Our Platform

  1. A strong belief in the necessity of pre-selecting quality Parliamentary candidates for both the State and Federal ALP Parliamentary Party
  2. Balancing ideal policy positions with electoral realities in order to give the ALP the best chance of winning and/or remaining in Government
  3. A firm belief that the ultimate objective of all economic policy is the attainment and maintenance of Australian economic stability, prosperity and full employment
  4. Social justice and equality of respect for every member of society, regardless of sex, creed, race, national origins, citizenship or economic status
  5. To encourage Australian ownership and control over Australian resources where possible
  6. Recognition and protection of fundamental industrial rights including the right to negotiate an enterprise bargaining agreement with an employer
  7. Safeguarding the rights of future generations through the conservation and sustainable use of resources and the natural environment
  8. An Australian foreign policy that is firmly guided by a commitment to multilateralism and international law, as well as the maintenance of strong bilateral ties with Australia’s allies
